Here’s my two cents
Pam, my wife, and I flew Delta from Minneapolis to Charlotte, NC a year ago. We signed up for Delta’s “Disability Service,” since both of us are 80 years old and walk with difficulty.
With Delta’s “Disability Service,” we each met a friendly personal attendant and received wheelchairs right inside the disability drop-off point for arrivals. Our personal attendants, both young and engaging, helped us check in for our flight, maneuvered us through security, where we learned anyone 75 or older did not have to remove their shoes.
Our attendants then took us to our gate, first asking us if we needed to use the restroom before boarding.
Yes, as older adults, we received “special” treatment in getting from departure curb to boarding gate, but it was with respect. We did not feel inferior. We were allowed to feel comfortable and safe so we could enjoy our trip. Delta helped us feel validated.
